Oh what a finale! Enlighten concludes for 2011

ENLIGHTEN: See Canberra in a whole new light has drawn to a close after two spectacular weekends filled with after-hour activities at Canberra’s national attractions, amazing architectural lighting and a vibrant event hub hosting headline acts such as George Benson, INXS and Chris Isaak.

Tonight’s audience was treated to an exclusive ‘Canberra only’ performance by pop music icon Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons, set against the sparkling backdrop of Lake Burley Griffin.

For the final evening, the National Gallery of Australia, Parliament House and the Museum of Australian Democracy (MoAD) at Old Parliament House opened their doors for exclusive after hour events.

These included Live at the Sculpture Garden, a fusion of visual arts, performing arts and wearable art in the stunning surrounds of the National Gallery of Australia’s Sculpture Garden, Cartoons in the Courtyard hosted by MoAD which saw crowds enjoy an evening of spontaneous fun as renowned comics from TV shows ‘Thank God You’re Here’ and      ‘The Hollowmen’ took them on a hilarious romp through the year’s political events using MoAD’s current exhibition “Behind the Lines” as inspiration.

Art lovers were treated to an intimate and exclusive behind the scenes tour of the Parliamentary art collection and architecture at Parliament House, followed by a delicious spread of modern Australian cuisine and live entertainment on the Queens Terrace.

Ticketholders and the general public had one final opportunity to witness the spectacular and thought provoking large-scale lighting projections that were canvassed across the facades of these attractions, as well as the National Library of Australia.

Australian Capital Tourism General Manager, Simonne Shepherd, said ENLIGHTEN succeeded in showcasing Canberra in a whole new light.

“The response from audience members and the general public indicates that ENLIGHTEN has certainly enhanced the vibrancy of Canberra during autumn and we look forward to many more,” Ms Shepherd said.
